FAMILIES ONTHE MOVE byMarion Knell
"Families on the Move" is a book designed to help TCKs (Third Culture Kids) make sense of their experiences and incorporate them into the rest of their life's history,. It is also intended to help parents understand the issues involved in bringing up a family overseas, to realise the long-term implications of the decisions they make and to put in place strategies to deal with the issues. If it is designed primarily for the families themselves, it is no less aimed at the agencies and supporting groups which send them. It seeks to affirm the role of the expatriate family.
"This book is very practical, with chapters on preparing to go overseas, building bridges with the home culture, living in a non-Western culture, educational options and re-entry, all illustrated by fun cartoons. Each chapter ends with 6 questions designed to help the reader work through the issues presented.
The author, Marion Knell, has supported families living overseas whilst working with Arab World Ministries and Global Connections (formerly the Evangelical Missionary Alliance). She has recently also accepted the position of the coordinator of the Member Care Europe group.
